Why did my products disappear from AI shopping?

For Shopify shops, AI shopping assistants such as ChatGPT and Copilot draw on Shopify Catalog: Shopify's own list of products from Shopify shops, which it shares with them. If a product is not in Shopify Catalog, those assistants are unlikely to show it, and nothing in your Shopify admin lists which products are left out.

Nobody outside an AI service can see why it chose to show one product and not another. What you can check is whether your products meet the rules Shopify publishes. When a product goes missing, it is usually one of these.

The usual causes

A setting on the whole store

The store is password-protected, or it is a development store rather than on the Starter plan or higher. Either one keeps every product out at once.

The product's status or channel changed

The product was set to Draft, Archived or Unlisted, or it is no longer published to the Online Store, Headless or Hydrogen sales channel. A bulk edit, an import or an app can change these without you noticing.

A missing detail

No title, no image, no price above zero, or no web address for the product. Imports and theme or app changes are common moments for details to go missing.

Hidden from search engines

The product's 'hide from search engines' setting is on.

Store policies, for ChatGPT

To sell through ChatGPT, Shopify asks for a refund policy, a privacy policy and terms of service set in your Shopify settings.

Where you ship

Some AI shopping channels reach shoppers only in certain countries. For example, Shopify's ChatGPT page says the shop must sell to customers in the United States.

What to do

  1. Open the product in your Shopify admin and check its status is Active.
  2. Under Publishing, check it is available on the Online Store (or your Headless or Hydrogen channel).
  3. Check it has a title, an image and a price above zero on at least one variant.
  4. In the search engine listing section, check it is not hidden from search engines.
  5. In Settings > Policies, check your refund policy, privacy policy and terms of service are set.
  6. Check your store is not password-protected (Online Store > Preferences).

Shopify's admin has an Agentic page under Sales channels that shows activity from AI channels; check it after a change.

Shopify's own pages

Plain-English help from GAIP, based on Shopify's published pages linked below. Shopify changes its rules; its own pages are the authority. Not advice, and no AI service publishes which shops it shows, so nobody can promise placement.
